Drinking Water – Exercise

The next time you workout on your treadmill, elliptical or exercise bike, make sure you drink plenty of water.  Many people suffer from chronic dehydration simply because they do not drink enough fluids.  When you exercise, dehydration is more serious because you also lose water through perspiration as you work out.

Water is essential to life, in fact, the human body is over 75% water. Most experts agree that people can survive for 30 days without food, but only three days without water!

Credible health and fitness professionals advise drinking water before, during and after cardio workouts on a treadmill, elliptical trainer or exercise bike.  Fitness equipment usually includes special holders that allow you to keep your water bottle handy so you can take a drink without interrupting your exercise.

Drinking fluids is important in your daily life, even between workout sessions.  Think about the fluids that you drink to quench your thirst.  Coffee, sports drinks, fizzy beverages, and alcohol are calorie-laden and either contain powerful stimulants or are loaded with sugar.  Some of these beverages can even leave you feeling more dehydrated in the long term.  A better idea is to drink plain water, either tap or bottled.

Nutritional experts recommend drinking between six and eight glasses of water daily to keep hydrated throughout the day.  Initially it may be challenging to focus on drinking this much water a day, but it will quickly become easy and part of your daily routine.

If you’re serious about living healthy, it is important to combine your exercise with a healthy lifestyle that includes drinking sufficient water to satisfy your body’s needs.

Tips for Safe Use of Your Treadmill

In light of the recent accident that tragically took the life of Mike Tyson’s daughter, LifeSpan Fitness wants to reassure you that treadmills are still an excellent choice for home exercise equipment, and by following a few treadmill safety tips as outlined below treadmills are safe to operate in the comfort and convenience of your home.

Today, most treadmills include a detachable safety key which must be in proper position before the treadmill can operate.  LifeSpan Fitness takes treadmill safety a step further to make treadmills safe for home use.  A pioneer in treadmill safety, LifeSpan introduced Intelli-Guard™ automatic safety pause nearly two years ago and now includes this unique feature on nearly every LifeSpan treadmill model.  Intelli-Guard™ forces the treadmill belt to come to a stop when there are no feet consistently striking the treadmill belt after a set amount of time.  So if for some reason your LifeSpan treadmill is running and no one is actually using it to exercise, your treadmill will automatically pause, reducing the risk of injury to you and your children.  If you get distracted and fall while using your treadmill or suddenly leave your treadmill while it is still running, the treadmill belt will stop.

Working Out at Home

For some of us exercising is pure agony.  Getting into a routine and finding the flexibility in your schedule can be nearly impossible.  Ask yourself….

Is exercise agony because of the time issue?
Is exercise agony because you are bored with your routine?
Or is exercise agony because you are overwhelmed and don’t know where to start?

All these questions can easily be addressed by sitting down and researching all the exercise options that are available.  Lifespan Fitness recognizes the fact that exercising routines can become boring and that time issues become a top excuse to push exercise off the “to do list.”  This is why Lifespan Fitness offers a variety of exercise machines, each with a variety of motivating workout programs, that can be placed conveniently in your home without the expense of signing up for a gym membership and leaving your home.

Working out in the comfort of your home allows you to push your fitness level limit without the intimidation of others watching.  In addition to enhancing your fitness level exercising at home can eliminate the “time” excuse the majority of the population uses today.  By having fitness equipment in your home it can be difficult just to pass it by without thinking “I should exercise today, even if only for a few minutes.”

According to a CDC report in 2007, one in three US adults was obese in 2005-2006 – that’s 72 million obese Americans!  Adult obesity is twice as common now as it was in 1980.

Save Money, Save Time – Workout at Home

In these rough times it is difficult to think about joining a gym with the commitment of signing on for one, two, or even three years.  You can exercise at home and save yourself both money and time if you buy a piece of fitness equipment such as an elliptical trainer that you can use at your convenience in the comfort of your own home.

Elliptical trainers
give you a smooth stride mimicking your natural walking motion.  These exercise machines are especially good for weight loss and cross training.  If you decide to buy an elliptical, read the fitness tips below to get the most out of your exercise workout.
